LONE WORKER PROTECTION LWP.SOLUTIONS ATTENDANCE EUROPE 1P ARIS - BRUSSELS - GENEVA - SAO PAULO - CASABLANCA - ABIDJAN 2 LONE WORKING Lone working refers to a person performing their duties alone, out of sight or hearing, over a certain period of time, without access to emergency services in the event of an accident or incident. The risk is increased by isolation itself and its duration. Workshop operatives, warehousemen, maintenance technicians, healthcare and laboratory staff, night watchmen, security agents, maintenance staff, customer advisers, drivers, tip workers, quarry-workers, council workers (technicians), farmers, shopkeepers...all these jobs often involve lone working, where workers are vulnerable to falls, stress, attack or loss of consciousness. REGULATION ON LONE WORKERS* H.S.E. defined Lone Worker “as those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision”, employers must take the responsibility for the Health and Safety of its employees. Employers must take necessary precautions to ensure that no employee works in isolation where he cannot be rescued quickly in the event of an accident. Lone working must be listed in the occupational risk assessment document. 3 Terms such as ‘LWP’, ‘man-down alarm system’, ‘lone worker protection device’ all refer to the same concept, namely equipment that is able to detect when the safety of workers is compromised (incident, fall, or attack) and send notifications to colleagues or emergency services. A lone worker protection device is a standalone, configurable, intuitive communication system that is suited to its environment, and which automatically sends out a notification if the worker falls or is under attack, to persons who can quickly send out help: colleagues or supervisors, guardroom, centralised security control room, duty staff, remote monitoring operator, as the case may be. Compatibility with the situation and the environment, panic button, loss of verticality, fall, no-motion, impact and acceleration sensors, lanyard, checkin function, fail-safe system, acknowledgement, verification, bulk SMS dispatch, auto redialling on several numbers, tracking, dependability, easy implementation, autonomy, user-friendliness, portability, operating cost, supplier after-sale service... all these features characterise a suitable lone worker protection device. Mobile phone (GSM), wireless landline phone (DECT), professional mobile radio (PMR), 868 MHz transmitter, radio frequency identification (RFID)… all these are Lone Worker Protection (LWP) solutions.
