Dairy UK published today a detailed policy document on food security, urging government to take a more coherent and supportive role in backing productive agriculture in the UK. „Food Security? sets out the policies required to ensure that UK consumers can continue to enjoy a sustainable supply of food that meets existing dietary preferences, at affordable prices. Dairy UK lobbies commissioner against differential quota increases

Dairy UK has written to Commissioner Mariann Fischer-Boel arguing strongly against the idea of differential increases in milk quotas. This recent proposal would enable certain member states to expand milk roduction more quickly than under the Commission’s original fixed-increases scenario.

Act now on health claims to protect brands, Dairy UK urges

Dairy food manufacturers can benefit from EU legislation restricting nutrition and health claims, if they act now, according to Dairy UK.

Addressing the ‘Functional Dairy: Product Innovation’ conference in Amsterdam recently, Dairy UK Technical Director Ed Komorowski reminded delegates that all health claims had to be assessed by the European Food Safety Authority.
