Antimicrobial resistance: EFSA's work in the food and feed safety area
The emergence and spread of microbes resistant to antimicrobial treatments is an issue of concern for scientists and policy-makers, as highlighted by European Antibiotic Awareness Day on 18 November 2008. A new key topic section explores EFSA's role and relevant activities in the food and feed safety area.


Risks linked to transmission of bluetongue during animal transit
EFSA’s AHAW Panel has looked at the risk of the bluetongue virus being transmitted when animals are in transit from or through restricted zones identified by EU Member States. This opinion completes EFSA’s scientific advice to the European Commission covering several aspects of the bluetongue disease.

EFSA's scientific work supports European decisions on GMOs
EFSA’s GMO Panel provides scientific advice to support the decision-making process on GMOs in Europe. Recently it has analysed scientific studies on the safety of cultivating different types of GM maize and proposed approaches to tackle the interplay between the risk assessment of herbicide tolerant GM crops and the associated herbicides. EFSA assesses the susceptibility of fish species to certain diseases
