NOVEL MELANOMA TRIAL SEEKING PATIENT VOLUNTEERS AT LEADING NORTH AMERICAN CANCER CENTERS
Recent research into the understanding of the immune system and tumor biology have opened the door to the development of new approaches in the treatment of melanoma and other cancers. Therapeutic cancer vaccines are designed to activate the immune system to recognize and attack human cancer cells without harming normal cells.
Building on the knowledge gained from earlier clinical trials, sanofi pasteur has designed a new approach to effectively harness a patient's own immune system to fight cancer. A new investigational melanoma vaccine is now being tested in centers across North America in a clinical trial called MEL11. This study is intended to assist in our understanding as to how this investigational vaccine works. No drug regulatory authority has yet approved it as a therapeutic product.
