Great interest in using synthetics in medical technology

It’s K time! The course is set for 2010

 

What will our everyday life look like in 20 years’ time? What contribution can plastics make to solving important problems? Which potential applications that still appear visionary today will already have been introduced in two decades? These questions will be at the heart of the special presentation at K 2010 in Düsseldorf from 27 October to 3 November 2010. Titled “Visions in Polymers”, the presentation will show with reference to examples from different areas of life what development trends can be discerned and what innovations the industry has in store. HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR PRODUCTION IN 2008

Scientists want to use dandelion for the production of rubber

Rabbits are crazy about Russian dandelion. And the plant is not only suitable as rabbit food - it also has features which make it economically interesting: it produces rubber. As synthetically
produced rubber products are becoming increasingly expensive ue to rising oil prices, this dandelion could become an important source of rubber. Scientists at the University of Münster are researching into this.

MEP presents awards to students in plastics energy competition

 
The winning teams in Brussels

German MEP Holger Krahmer brought the Europe-wide student competition on energy efficiency FuturEnergia, to a close by presenting the prizes. The award ceremony, held in the European Commission’s Charlemagne Building took place under the patronage of EU Education Commissioner Jan Figel’. When handing over the awards, MEP Krahmer said: “I am impressed with the creativity European students showed when asked to solve energy challenges. If everyone would be this alert to energy issues, less resources would be wasted on energy.” The winners are teams of three students from Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany and Portugal. European Safety Signs

The EUROMAP recommendations for safety signs have been revised to match the new edition of the US standard AN-137, V.3.4:2008. They are consisting of

warning signs (EUROMAP 64)
prohibition signs (EUROMAP 68) and
mandatory action signs (EUROMAP 69).

The safety signs may be applied not only on injection moulding machines but as well on all other plastics and rubber machinery.

Plastics recovery reach 50% and growth in demand outpace GDP by 50%

The plastics industry publishes its 17th report on trends in production, demand and recovery of plastics called the “Compelling Facts about Plastics 2006”. 2006 was the year when recovery of plastics reached the 50% for the first time. Underpinned by strong growth in mechanical recycling as well as energy recovery resulted in 3% points increase over 2005.
