The pollution of networks by par conduction, induction and radiation is a consequence of the multiplication of devices equipped with chopped power supply mechanisms, power electronics equipment, etc. The situation ensues significant energy losses and disturbances in machine operations. Regular testing of one's electrical network is thus in order. With the C.A 8332 and C.A 8334 Qualistars, this operation can be carried out rapidly and without being a specialist.
Random power failures, something not working right, untimely stops? There is no doubt about it: a power quality analyser is in need. The C.A 8332 and C.A 8334 Qualistars are especially designed for those who want to rapidly check the quality of their network and easily make use of the results.
Since it is essential to avoid losing time trying to understand how these instruments work, the Qualistar keyboard is divided into immediately identifiable zones (direct functions, Pop-up menus, cursors…). The large color screen has the same pictograms as the keyboard and, more importantly, display modes which are very structured.
Three distinct operations for six display modes
The first operation has to do with the Observation of phenomena. It essentially depends upon graphic representations, i.e. the general form of the wave ( mode). Besides the graphic representation, this mode displays measured quantities and provides vectoral images of the three-phase network (waveform mode).
At this stage, the user brings the presence of the problem to the fore, yet is still unable to determine how to solve it. Thus he begins the next operation, called Diagnosis.
Two modes are dedicated to making a diagnosis: the harmonic mode ( ), the power/energy mode ( ). The first quantifies and qualifies the influence of harmonics, for example, on the temperature rise of the neutral or on rotating machines etc. The second, obviously, indicates the different powers and energies (active, reactive and apparent). Yet this mode also gives the value for power factor PF, DPF, of the tangent, … thus all information required for determining if there are power losses, if compensation capacities are dimensioned correctly, if a power cut-off system is necessary, etc.
Following a rapid analysis of the situation, the user can begin the Surveillance operation. For this stage, three different modes are planned: recording ( ) during which all of the desired parameters are saved; alarms mode ( ) which edits all of the overruns made during the measurement period; and transient mode (mode ) which displays the transient phenomena and the current surges during a motor inrush.
"Screen shot" or the eternal screen!
On site, the user is not always in the best conditions for reflecting, interpreting and/or analyzing the results of a measurement campaign. Quite simply, he may be required to illustrate a report or back up a conclusion. For this, the "screen shot" function is very useful. A simple press on the key and the screen is immortalized forever.
Later on and in more calm and comfortable conditions, the user can easily identify the different images by their date, time, and type and call them up onto the screen to print them or just have a look at them again.
In the same manner, the software provides all of the means for displaying and processing the data collected on site. Its multilingual, multi-window functioning makes it possible to present the data in graphic, histogram, and tabular forms, and even make transfers to spreadsheet type office tools.
The Qualistars have numerous other conveniences. Take their intuitive configuration, on-line help function or their ability to directly print on the printer. All of these conveniences help save the user time and make it easier to concentrate on the measurement taking. So random power failures, something not working right, untimely stops?
