TenCate Miragrid GX
TenCate Miragrid GX products are knitted geogrids made from high tenacity polyester yarns which are covered with a black polymeric coating, providing high tensile strength with low creep characteristics. The way GX is manufactured has two major advantages. First of all the machine direction ribs are in a straight line, leading to minimal initial strain, mostly referred to as construction strain: it’s the percentage which a product elongates before actual tensile strength is mobilized. Secondly, all junctions are knitted firmly together, and with the specially developed coating, GX is a very stable but still flexible geogrid. Miragrid is light weight and supplied on 5,2 m wide rolls. They are easy to cut to the required length, easy to install and do not have sharp edges, unlike rigid geogrids. Especially in higher tensile strength areas, the recoiling effect of those rigid grids, the time to cut the material and the risk of injuries to the workers makes installation less efficient then Miragrid.
TenCate Miragrid GX has been specially designed for reinforcement of granular, fine to coarse-grained non-cohesive soils. The use of high tenacity polyester yarns result in excellent creep resistance, and the high molecular weight makes the yarns also resistant to the potential degradative effects of hydrolysis and chemical attack for the range of pH normally encountered in reinforced soil environments. Due to the open structure and the rough surface of the grid the soil interlocking effects and the friction interaction are optimal. This improves soil interaction properties of the geogrid due to better shearing- and pull out resistance which enables even more economic Miragrid based designs.
For segmental concrete block wall applications, GX geogrids can easily be integrated in a wide variety of facing systems to provide a superior and structurally sound finish of the wall. The connection capacity, which often relies on frictional interface between Miragrid geogrid and various block types ensure optimal strength mobilization and thus cost-effective design.
GX is primarily used for reinforcement of retaining walls, bridge abutments and steep reinforced slopes. The biaxial versions of GX are used to stabilize roads and other trafficked areas. In landfill construction TenCate Miragrid geogrids are often used to reinforce the mineral seals and prevent slope slippage and instability of the cover soil.
