Usage Control

The security design described here is similar to the one described in the Anti-Cloning of a Peripheral use case. However, it adds several more features:

  • The country identity of both peripheral (phone, etc.) and host (PBX, etc.) must match.
  • The PKI security scheme is used because the host also contains secure information (i.e., in the form of a certificate for the country code)
  • The certificate in both security chips can be updated to change the country code. (They both need the root certificate for this to be done securely.)                                                                                                                               The Board ID™ Starter Kit includes a demo that shows how the Board ID chip can be used to:
  • Ensure that a host system (wireless phone system PBX, etc.) in a particular country will only work with a device (wireless/VoIP phone, etc.) designated for use in that country.
  • Ensure that a host system will only work with a valid device, not a clone
  • Enable remote updates that allow each device to be used in a different country
