With BALINIT® C STAR tribological properties and functional reliability are effectively improved, even if components are made of soft base materials or are exposed to high mechanical loads.
A hard, tough metal based layer (chromium nitride) provides adequate surface hardness and support (load-bearing capacity) for the superposed, tribologically effective carbon coating (WC/C).
The WC/C coating offers excellent protection against adhesive wear (scuffing) and its low
coefficient of friction reduces the risk of surface fatigue (pitting) and tribo-oxidation (fretting corrosion). Simultaneously, the compact chromium nitride layer enhances the corrosion resistance of the components.
In contrast to conventional composite coatings, the multifunction coating BALINIT® C STAR is applied in a single-pass vacuum process at temperatures between 180 and 350°C, resulting in a defect-free and homogeneous coating of unique quality and adhesive strength.
Recommended applications:
• For components made of soft base materials (titanium, nonferrous metal alloys, stainless steels)
• For high surface pressures
• Plain bearings
• Gearings
