With the innovative use of Ethernet in the robotic environment, KUKA Roboter GmbH is backing an open, manufacturer-independent technology.
The use of Ethernet in the production environment results in significant benefits for the customer: standard components are used instead of proprietary components, making installation and administration of the networks considerably easier.
Alongside the many advantages there are also a number of disadvantages, however, as the increasing degree of networking also constitutes an additional risk for the production network.
As the robots are installed and operated in environments that lie beyond KUKA’s sphere of responsibility, the individual environment must also be considered in its full context by the system user. It is therefore necessary for all parties – from the system supplier to the user and the service center – to be integrated into a comprehensive security concept.
