The story of Piovan was born from an entrepreneurial intuition that could see creative space and great potential for growth in the emerging world of plastic materials. From the very first auxiliary machinery produced in 1964 to the international group that Piovan is today, values and individual capabilities have become the company culture, being able to evolve and integrate with modern managerial skills.

Growing with the territory During the 1970's Piovan chose to move its offices and production site to Santa Maria di Sala, thus contributing to the generation of this important industrial centre. The growth of the area where the company is situated and the contribution to the local area's prosperity have always been a priority for Piovan, a guarantee of continuity and stability. Development without boundaries The first Piovan foreign branch was created in Germany in 1974. Just ten years after the production of the first granulator the company created a base in the heart of the most difficult, competitive and technologically advanced market of the time. This positive sense of a challenge along with the awareness of its own value have marked out the entire foreign adventure of Piovan, which today has branches all over the world and holds the highest position in many markets.

1934 Costante Piovan founds the head company at Padua, a company which deals in the field of precision mechanics and the production of moulds for sheet metal processing. It soon makes a reputation for itself for being reliable and solid in the emerging Italian industrial background.

1969 In order to have appropriate space in line with the company's growth, the production site is moved from Padua to Santa Maria di Sala. The first of the new Piovan buildings in this area covered 1,300 square metres. Early 1960's Joining his father in the management of the family business, Luigi Piovan starts commercial relationships with production companies in other countries, Germany and the USA in particular. Piovan enters the market as the first Italian company to develop and produce auxiliary machinery for the plastics material industry.

Early 1970's In a few years' time Piovan is making the whole range of auxiliaries. Still today the company is amongst the few manufacturers that offer a complete line of auxiliary machinery for every requirement in the treatment of plastic materials.

1973 Still at the forefront of technological evolution, just ten years after its beginnings Piovan installs the first centralised feeding, dosing and drying system, already demonstrating its high engineering capabilities. 1974 Expansion abroad begins with the first German branch at Munich, from where after a short while a capillary like sales network and a fast technical assistance service were structured.

1983 The company realises a greatly complex plant, confirming its vocation for challenges and its ability to carry them out with success. It is the largest dryer in Europe, with an airflow of 4,500 m3/h, combined with a 12,000 litre hopper. 1982 Piovan develops the specific skills required by the niche market of PET. It designs and develops the first drying system for the production of PET preforms in Italy.

1989 The new premises at Santa Maria di Sala are inaugurated covering an area of 28,000 square metres. This is where the company's head office is located today.

1993 In response to demands of the North American market a new foreign branch is opened, Piovan Canada, which shortly becomes an important reference point for the PET sector in particular. 1992 Piovan continues to develop solutions for the PET sector, solutions which are also suitable for functioning by nitrogen. The first large plant was installed in Colombia in a post­condensation PET system. 1996 Anticipating a market evolution trend, Piovan develops the first software for the supervision and control of the plant, which allows the functioning of the machinery to be constantly monitored.

1995 Production of machinery for a new niche market, Compact Disc, starts. This sector requires technological capabilities and very specific skills. In the same year the company receives the ISO 9001 certification for quality. 1997 A new branch in the East is opened, Piovan Asia, with its first office in Singapore, after which further branches will open for a widespread presence in such a vast and diversified market.

2000 To assert itself as a leader inside a market as important and complex as the South American one, Piovan creates its first production site outside of Italy, Piovan do Brasil, which covers an area of 6,000 square metres. 2004 Construction of the second production site abroad commences, situated in Zuhai in China, dedicated to the production of machinery for the Asian market.
