CATAMAR is an oil pollution recovery vessel used out at sea in the event of an oil slick or a cleaning out able to work effectively up to Beaufort Force , with a continuous hydrocarbons absorption capacity of 100m3/hour.
The collecting of hydrocarbons is carried out thanks to a flow created by a turbine. This flow passes between the twin hulls of CATAMAR, to a separator equiped with a grid that retains all solid waste.
The flow divides into two separator:
1st flow: evacuates the clear water through the turbine.
2nd flow: surface water, polluted by oil and hydrocarbons, goes to a separator where the floatting oil and hydrocarbons are stored.
Floating oil and hydrocarbons are transfered to a flexible tank towed by CATAMAR. Service vessels forward the full tanks to protected zones and simutaneously supply CATAMAR with empty tanks.
Thus, CATAMAR, with a variable width (from 2m80 up to 100m) can work continuously at a 2500m/hour speed.
