The right answers...
When it comes to industrial coatings, complexity is commonplace. Every industry is seeking answers to different questions questions which are long-standing or emerging, and questions which reflect growing demands for performance and sustainability.

Q. How can waterborne road marking paints dry fast yet last longer than conventional solventborne paints? Q. Does coating a bridge have to be a never ending job? Q. How can oil and gas companies protect their equipment from the corrosive effects of the searing desert heat and the depths of the ocean? As the largest producer of raw materials for the coatings industry and the number one global supplier in industrial and architectural binders, additives and epoxy resins, Dow Coating Materials is well positioned to find the answers and deliver the solutions. In essence, we're the experts' expert.

Key technologies
Industrial Binders
The Dow Coating Materials line of industrial binders is based on the most advanced Dow technology. Our offering provides excellent adhesion to substrates, superior resistance, fast drying, and excellent whiteness and retro-reflectivity retention for road marking paint application, for example as well as a superior environmental profile.

Opaque Polymers
Dow Coating Materials is the pioneer and global leader in the category of opaque polymers, with over 30 years of experience around the globe. RopaqueTM opaque polymers are hollowsphere particles specifically engineered to improve opacity and whiteness in paint. This technology allows paint manufacturers to either optimise the total formulation cost by reducing the TiO2 amount needed, or improve key attribute performance with no additional cost. Our knowledge and expertise in opaque polymers is globally recognised, and we will continue to innovate in this area.

Rheology Modifiers and Thickeners
Dow Coating Materials offers an extensive portfolio of rheology modifiers and thickeners. Based on different technologies, they are designed to control the flow of paint and maximise a coating's performance and application properties. Our broad scope of solutions is marketed under the AcrysolTM trade name, and range from shear thinning to Newtonian. Liquid with low asshipped viscosity, our rheology modifiers are easy to incorporate and handle during the coating manufacturing process, and are resistant to microbial attack.

Dispersants
Dispersants are an essential ingredient in paint, providing compatibility and stability while directly affecting most performance properties. Our dispersants have been designed for flawless compatibility with rheology modifiers.

Epoxy Blends Resins
D.E.R.TM 351 D.E.R.TM 351 liquid epoxy resin is a low viscosity epoxy resin combining the performance properties of standard bisphenol A epoxy resin with the low viscosity of bisphenol F epoxy resin. Applications include solvent-free coatings, tank and pipe-linings, concrete reinforcements and also floorings, adhesives, electrical insulation and filament winding. D.E.R.TM 352 Similar to D.E.R.TM 351 but with a higher viscosity specification. D.E.R.TM 356 Very similar to D.E.R.TM 352 except that this resin will give a more rapid cure (higher reactivity). D.E.R.TM 321 D.E.R.TM 321 epoxy resin has extremely low viscosity which is advantageous in compounds containing large amounts of filler. D.E.R.TM 321 has a cure rate similar to undiluted resins. The reactive diluent limits the solvent resistance, whereas an improved acid resistance can be observed. Main applications include floorings, groutings, concrete reinforcement, structural adhesives, water dispersible systems, crack injection and castings. D.E.R.TM 324 D.E.R.TM 324 liquid epoxy resin offers low viscosity and low surface tension. The low surface tension explains why this resin wets the surface better, gives better adhesion and will have slightly lower viscosity at any given filler loading. The diluent increases pot-life, flexibility (impact resistance) and acid resistance but limits the solvent resistance. D.E.R.TM 324 liquid epoxy resin is prone to crystallisation. D.E.R.TM 329 Liquid epoxy resin modified with a multi-functional reactive diluent that gives improved mechanical and chemical resistance properties versus XZ 92512.00 epoxy resin in similar applications. D.E.R.TM 335 Chemically modified liquid epoxy resin without diluent. This resin grade offers excellent flow and gloss and can be formulated for civil engineering applications. D.E.R.TM 335 epoxy resin is used in building applications, above or below ground, on road and bridge construction, as well as underwater applications. D.E.R.TM 353 D.E.R.TM 353 liquid epoxy resin is a low viscosity epoxy resin with a very low crystallisation tendency. The performance of D.E.R.TM 353 in ambient cure formulations is similar to those obtained when using D.E.R.TM 324 liquid epoxy resin. D.E.R.TM 358 D.E.R.TM 358 liquid epoxy resin, modified with a di-functional reactive diluent, gives improved reactivity as well as solvent resistance. Applications include civil engineering, casting and tooling, potting and encapsulation applications, but also Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) or Resin Infusion Moulding (RIM).

Flexible Epoxy Resins
D.E.R.TM 736P D.E.R.TM 736P is a flexible epoxy resin of low viscosity and light colour for use in coatings and adhesives. Like D.E.R.TM 732P epoxy resin, a longer chain version of D.E.R.TM 736P, this product imparts flexibility, elongation and improved impact resistance. D.E.R.TM 736P liquid epoxy resin can also serve as the basis for advanced polymers for a variety of waterborne and solvent-borne coatings. D.E.R.TM 732P D.E.R.TM 732P epoxy resin is a longer chain equivalent to D.E.R.TM 736P with slightly higher viscosity.

Epoxy Novalac Resins
D.E.N.TM 425 This liquid epoxy novolac resin fills the gap between bisphenol F epoxy resins and viscous epoxy novolac resins. Its multi-functionality (± 2.5) produces a tightly cross-linked network, yielding improved high temperature performance and resistance against various chemicals. Unlike other epoxy novolac resins, this grade does not necessarily require post-cure. D.E.N.TM 431 D.E.N.TM 431 epoxy novolac resin has multi-epoxy functionality (± 2.8) which makes it useful in adhesives, electrical and structural laminates, coatings and castings for elevated temperature service. D.E.N.TM 431 exhibit high chemical resistance and excellent elevated temperature performance. Adhesives based on D.E.N.TM 431 are ideal binders for abrasives in grinding and polishing products. D.E.N.TM 438 D.E.N.TM 438 epoxy novolac resin is a widely used general purpose epoxy novolac resin. It is recognised as a standard for high temperature applications. D.E.N.TM 438 has multiepoxy functionality (± 3.6). D.E.N.TM 438-A85 D.E.N.TM 438 in acetone. D.E.N.TM 438-EK85 Solution of D.E.N.TM 438 in methyl ethyl ketone. D.E.N.TM 438-X80 Solution of D.E.N.TM 438 in xylene. D.E.N.TM 439 D.E.N.TM 439 epoxy novolac resin is a widely used general purpose epoxy novolac resin. D.E.N.TM 439 has multi-epoxy functionality (±3.8) which is slightly more reactive than D.E.N.TM 438 epoxy novolac resin.
